The ABCD Muffins Your Kids Will Love (No Refined Sugar!)

Meet your new favourite snack for toddlers (and let's be real… you too). These ABCD Muffins – that’s Apple, Banana, Cinnamon Donut! – are a fun, one-bowl wonder that pack fruit, fibre, and flavour into a mini muffin that's actually delicious.

They’re naturally sweetened with fruit and a little coconut sugar, and you can even sneak in some carrot for bonus veg. Because we’re all about snacks that feel good and taste good.

Why We Love Them:

  • No refined sugar

  • Freezer-friendly

  • Naturally sweet + fluffy

  • Donut muffin vibes without the sugar crash

🧁 ABCD Muffins – No Added Sugar Version

✅ Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana (mashed)

  • 1 small apple (grated)

  • 1 small carrot (grated, optional)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/4 cup olive oil or melted coconut oil

  • 1/4 cup milk of choice

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 cup self-raising flour (or plain flour + 1.5 tsp baking powder)

  • Optional: pinch of salt

Optional “donut” topping (for toddlers/adults):

  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar + 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • Melted butter or coconut oil

🧁 Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C fan forced. Line a mini muffin tray.

  2. Mix banana, grated apple (and carrot if using), eggs, oil, milk and vanilla in a bowl.

  3. Stir in cinnamon.

  4. Fold in the flour until just combined.

  5. Divide into muffin tray (¾ full) and bake for 15–18 mins.

  6. Optional: Once baked and still warm, brush muffin tops with butter or coconut oil and dip into the cinnamon sugar mix.

👶 Baby-Friendly Notes:

  • No added sugar = perfect for babies starting solids

  • Moist texture makes it easy to chew

  • Add finely ground flaxseed or hemp hearts for a little boost

Make It Yours:
You can switch up the add-ins: swap the flour for spelt or a GF blend, toss in some chia or flax for extra nutrition, or skip the “donut” topping for a baby-led weaning version.

Storage Tip:
Pop them in the freezer and defrost overnight in the fridge or 30 secs in the microwave. Perfect for lunchboxes, morning tea, or when hangry hits and you need something STAT.
