Quick recipe details
- Prep time: 10 minutes
- Cook time: 30–35 minutes
- Makes: 12 slices
Ingredients
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 2 apples, grated
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- ¼ cup olive oil or melted butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Optional: ¼ cup sultanas or chopped dates
Method
- Prep: Preheat oven to 180°C (fan-forced). Line a slice tin (approx. 20cm x 20cm) with baking paper.
- Mix dry: In a bowl, combine oats, cinnamon and baking powder (and dried fruit if using).
- Add wet: Add grated apple, eggs, maple syrup and oil/butter. Stir until everything is evenly mixed and the oats look coated.
- Press into tin: Tip mixture into the tin and press firmly into an even layer—this helps the slice hold together.
- Bake: Bake for 30–35 minutes until the top is golden and the centre feels set (not wet).
- Cool: Cool completely in the tin before slicing. (Warm slice = crumble city.)
